Jorge Bozzo LU8DQ is considered by many contesters to be one of the all-time best CW operators. His enthusiasm, operating, and station engineering skills were an inspiration to all.

In his CW contest career, Bozzo won:

  • CQ World Wide 7 times, establishing 4 World Records
  • CQ World Wide WPX 3 times, including 2 World Records
  • ARRL International DX Contest 4 times
  • ARRL 10 Meter Contest 4 times
  • Worked All Europe contest 1 time, Continental Leader 9 times
  • All Asian Contest continental Leader 8 times
  • IARU HF Radiosport Championship 11 consecutive times in the Single Operator CW category. He was the top CW entrant every year since the contest’s first running, from 1977 until 1987.

Bozzo started at the age of 14 using his father’s license, with strong inclination towards CW. He received his first LU6DCT license when he was 18 years old.

Bozzo’s station was always very simple. There was a 31 meters high tower 160, 80 and 40 meters. A 120 meters long wire. A 2-inch directional antenna wire elements for the 40 meter band. A slopper for the 80-meter band aimed at the central United States. There was a directional antenna for 20, 15 and 10 meters, and a directional 5-element for 10 meters. A homebrew linear amplifier with 3000 Z tubes, which provided 1 KW to the antenna.

LU8DQ was nominated by the Radio Club Quilmes of Argentina.
