Atilano de Oms Sobrinho PY5EG, is the first member of the Contest Hall of Fame from the Southern Hemisphere. Oms was born into a family of radio amateurs with both his father and mother being active. In early 1962 he began to participate in some national competitions and, in 1963, for the first time, he participated in th CQWW SSB CONTEST. He has achieved multiple World high scores in the single band categories from his large station near Curitiba.
