Nomination Process

The CQ Contest Hall of Fame (CHOF) was established by CQ magazine in September 1986, with the first recipient being Buzz Reeves, K2GL. The program has maintained a consistent purpose, which is to recognize individuals who have demonstrated significant contributions/achievements in amateur radio contesting This includes not only personal operating results but also endeavors that have benefited the broader contest community such as:

  • Contest club/organizational leadership
  • Contest administration
  • Computer/IT activities
  • Mentoring/training new contesters
  • Contest activity programs/promotion
  • Education/promotion of contesting to the ham community
  • Authorship of article/Web/media content

In addition, candidates are to be known for meaningful/measurable contributions to the hobby at large.

To submit a nomination, the following information is required:

  • Name of Person Being Nominated
  • Callsign (if multiple callsigns, list the most recent)
  • If the nominee is still living, their current contact information
  • A description of the nominee’s accomplishments/achievements and why it is believed they should be elected to the CHOF
  • Additional letters of support as available
  • Nominating Club and Contact Information (Note: this is only for requesting follow-up information):
    • Nominating club
    • Contact name
    • Mailing address
    • Phone
    • E-mail address

Upon receipt of all applications, each nomination will be reviewed/voted upon by the CQ Contest Directors and assigned contest committee members. Once the nominees have been notified, the public announcement of each successful nominee will be made during the annual awards ceremony at the Dayton Hamvention® Contest Dinner.

Note: Unsuccessful nominations are not carried over. They may be resubmitted in subsequent years.
